Oracle Java for Mac or Java 7 JRE/Java SE Runtime Environment 7 is the official version of Java for Mac by Oracle that allows you to run Java applications. The openjdk-7-jre package contains just the Java Runtime Environment. On the command line, type: sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre. JDK 7 Debian, Ubuntu, etc. If you want to develop Java programs then install the java-1.8.0-openjdk-devel package. The java-1.8.0-openjdk package contains just the Java Runtime Environment.
